New Designers: Ostwald Helgason

Another Monday upon us, another new designer/s to write about. I feel like my summer holiday has been traveling faster than my own personal concept of time, and I honestly haven't got anything to show for my eight weeks of pure sunshine.

Anyways,  when coming across these two designers today, I had to write about them as part of my 'New Designer Mondays' series. Are these designers, new? No, but are they up there with some of the most prestigious names in the fashion industry? Not Quite, but getting there.  Susanne Otswald and Ingvar Helagason are a London based duo, who met in 2003 while working at Marjan Pejoski, and then started going out. In 2008 they started up their business together. Susanne says she is in charge of all the creative and designing processed, and Ingvar looks after all the marketing and editing. At first, they ran their business on a 'shoestring budget'; Ingvar worked at a restaurant to earn money, and Susanne sewed almost every item herself. But things did get better for the quirky London duo. They started showing their A/W12, which was a big hit. Now, they are bringing out spotless collections season after season, and are also selling some clothes on Asos.

A/W 13/14

"Our focus is on unexpected detail and subversive use of colour and pattern. We are drawn to a sense of adventure and exploration and the Ostwald Helgason girl is always on some kind of expedition into the unknown! She is definitely fearless, fun and curious about the world around her."
