The 'F' Word

Feminism is simply the advocacy of women's rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes. Some people are self-professed feminists, some believe in equality but do not deem themselves within the feminist movement, and others are utterly against it. I am the first, thus believing that women and men have not yet been equalised, contrary to many people's common belief.

Women officially 'got the vote' in England in 1918, and by 1928, all women over the age of 21 were aloud to vote. It would appear to many people that this was all that is required to make men and women equal. That women having a say in what happens in parliament alone was enough to confirm this country as fair, unbiased, and all together: this is wrong. Statistically, women still get paid £5,000 less  a year then men. This by itself is wrong and needs to change, and this is only in Britain, with issues far worse and severe abroad.

Girls as young as 9 or 10, are being forced into marriages, by either her dad, the husband in question, or her local society. This can often lead to abuse, and not only damage to her emotionally, but also physically.  Not to mention the fact that many of these girls do not currently and never will have any form of education. At the rate the world is going, it will take 72 years from now, for girls to get a primary education. Why is this happening? Simply because she was born a girl.

There are many, many common misconceptions about feminism and the views and even intellect of a feminist. The main one being, we hate and are anti men. Not only is this not true for the greater majority of participators, it is a complete oxymoron for the fact that it come back to men as the center of the argument, again. The exact thing we're trying to come against. This is not about men, this is not about the rights they have, or about the pay they get, or the general respect and authority they get around the world, this is about women; women and men uniting to get equal rights, equal pay, equal respect and authority, for both genders, not just the one.

What as feminists, are we aiming to achieve? Easy. A world where we don't have to launch a world wide campaign, for gender equality to be present. As empowering and important as the feminist movement is, it shouldn't have had to happen. In a perfect world, women and men are equal: within the workplace, within the home, within the law. Women should be able to walk the street alone, and be 100% safe. Women should be able to work alongside men and earn the same wage for a day of work. Forced marriages illegal in every country of the world, domestic abuse abolished. Girls and women all around the world should have equal opportunities to gain an education, to gain a job, to gain a life

  1. Hello Mr. American Man, I understand your point, not. I'm not sure you quite know what you're talking about, I think you're merely just looking for attention. I think the fact that you are placing all American woman under the same catagory of laziness and all things negative is utterly false and dispicible i must say. Walk away, you're clueless. :)
